The BIG one!

It's been one week since the Big one hit. We had a terrible wind storm that came and howled at the windows in the middle of last wed. night. When we woke up , the power was out, the wind was still howling and we saw all the destruction it left. The winds got up to 95 MPH. It looked like a tornado had struck! Here is our back yard, luckily our trampoline stayed put, many others flew away. my neighbors shed was picked up and moved, and most of our shingles blew off.


The boys got out their protective eye wear to go out into the wind to check out the damages, Meg wanted to join in too.

Our poor little old neighbor lost five big pine trees! Our street lost a total of 15 pine trees!!
While all the other neighbors put tarps on their roofs and waited for the insurance adjuster to come out, my handy, hard working husband, got to work roofing our damages side. He and the boys did an awesome job!
Papa stopped by to drop off some hot chocolate and to give us all hugs. Thanks Papa!


With all the fallen trees, we were without power for 3 nights. It got pretty chilly, but we stayed toasty inside. The gas fireplace was wonderful and Spencer kept the generator running all day so the heat blower would come on to heat this one room... and so the kids could be babysat by the TV ;)

On Sunday, church was canceled. There was another big wind and snow in the forcast, so the whole community worked together on this day to clean up all the fallen trees and debris, so we wouldn't have more damage. It was the most amazing thing to see, as people everywhere were working together. Complete strangers were going around with hot chocolate and treats to give to all the workers. It was an amazing day!


With the threat of more wind, and this tree's roots rocking in the last storm, my neighbor got the troops together to bring this giant tree down.

It took 30 min to take it down AND clean it up. We would fill one truck, and another truck would pull up behind it to be filled. AMAZING!



Well, the second storm never came, and we got only flurries, but what we accomplished together in one day was a wonderful sight to see. I love my community!!
